Abstract

Lip balm is a cosmetic preparation whose main ingredients are waxes, fats and oils extracted from natural or synthetic sources intended to hydrate dry skin or lips, as well as present a sun Protection Factor (SPF) value. VCO and striped flower extract have powerful antioxidant effects that benefit skin health including lip skin. This study aims to determine the formulation of lip balm preparations and the antioxidant activity of lip balm preparations. The research method used is experimental. The formulations submitted as many as 4 formulations with different variations were then carried out physical submissions including organoleptis tests, homogeneity tests, stability tests, pH tests, preference tests, melting point tests and antioxidant tests using the DPPH method.
The results of the study were obtained that the resulting preparation met the requirements of the homogeneity test, stable in storage for 28 days, melting point 50oC, pH 5.49-6.46 and did not irritate the skin, the DPPH test obtained high anti- oxidant results because it had an IC50 value of 8.30
